( ooc: for the dom/sub closeness event shenanigans because it's too cute not to play around with. )

( the sun has set for sometime now when she notes jack out of the corner of her eye shifting closer toward her. kara doesn't mind though and continues writing down her latest recipes in a small notebook. it isn't until they are suddenly shoulder to shoulder that she pauses, looking over to the man with a smile and a chuckle.

although the events that took place in the caves are still fresh in her mind there has been no change in her feelings toward him. if anything there is a noted fondness in her features as she leans over, bumping his shoulder. )

Is something wrong?

[After the caves, Jack has been feeling even quieter and more withdrawn than usual. He's torn between trying to figure out what exactly happened and trying to forget the whole thing. He's kept his distance from Kara, just a little, feeling like he's too dangerous to be around anybody, much less anyone he cares about. He should be kept isolated, away from anybody.

But he stays with Kara anyway. Maybe he'll... get over it. Maybe it'll all just go away.

And then as night falls, he feels like he just. Needs to get closer to her. It's not even something he thinks about consciously, it just... happens. But as he edges closer to her, hoping not to disturb her as she's writing, he realizes he doesn't just need it, he wants it too. So he tries to be subtle, even if it doesn't quite work, and when he's finally right next to her and she asks her question, he shrugs a little.]

No... not really.

( she watches as he shrugs and it earns him another smile. she sets her pen down, leaning in with a curious look as if she can trying to read something written across his face but ultimately just tilts her head curiously. kara likes to think that's she understands jack better now and that they share a connection that goes beyond their contract but sometimes, like now, she feels stunted in her understanding of humans and their emotions. )

Is it anything I can help with?

[He shrugs again. He feels better now that he's close to her. More at ease, less of a... tug to be near.]

I think it's okay now.

[He should probably explain more, huh. He's quiet a moment as he figures out how to express it.]

I just... kind of. Had to be close. I guess. If that's okay.

Okay. ( she says in a small voice, half-whispered. carefully, she sets her pen down and raises a hand to cup his cheek in a fond gesture and grin brilliantly at him. )

I like it when you're near me so, yes, of course. I'd like it if you stayed close.

[He closes his eyes when she touches his face. It's almost overwhelming to be the focus of such a smile and such affection, and his chest aches with feelings he still doesn't completely understand. So he just nods a little, hesitant and shy.]

Okay.

[He opens his eyes again and smiles, just a little, in return.]

Thank you.

( her smile remains and although she drops her hand from his face, she shifts and moves onto her knees. gently, she moves until she can kiss his forehead before trailing a kiss to his nose and then placing one last gentle one against his lips. maybe it's just her or maybe they both need this but she smiles once more, shaking her head. )

You don't have to thank me. You help me a lot too.

[His eyes flutter shut at the kisses, a soft sigh escaping his lips.]

I can't imagine how.

[How could he help anyone except by killing?]

From just being near me like now. ( she murmurs, letting her hands come to rest on his shoulders. ) But you make me laugh and smile, I like it most when you smile. And I know I can always count on you if I need help.

( she leans in one more, letting their foreheads come to rest together. ) You make me feel human when we're together.

[Oh. Oh. That is... he doesn't really know why that makes his heart clench and flutter. He doesn't understand it. But it feels nice. It feels good. He likes the way Kara makes him feel. He sighs again, and lets himself smile a little.]

I... I'm glad.

[He doesn't know what else to say. What can you say to that?]

( she knows jack is a man of few words so, perhaps, that is why she nevertheless smiles. perhaps, also, there isn't really a need for words. kara rather just likes the closeness of the moment and can't help leaning in for a another kiss. it starts off soft, chaste and barely there but she presses closer after a moment-- letting him pull away or take the lead if he wanted. )

[Jack is not one to take the lead, especially not in these kinds of situations, but he's happy to follow. He likes the soft kiss, but he likes it when it gets a little closer too, and follows right along with Kara. And really, just a hair past soft is what he needs right now, and he sighs a little, melting into it.]

( it's a nice sound, she decides as he sighs and kara finds herself rather determined to hear it again. besides, she rather likes the happy hum that bubbles up from her too as they kiss. being with jack was always nice though and he, in his newness to everything, is a different sort of change in pace compared to some of the other people she has been with.

perhaps it's why she isn't scared being a little more confidant with him, taking the lead and deepening their kiss with playful nips at his bottom lip. )

[The little bites surprise him, enough so that he pulls back just a little, his lip still caught between Kara's teeth as he blinks, startled, but he rallies quickly and dives back in, opening up and wrapping an arm around Kara's waist to pull her closer.]

( kara is already about to apologize when he pulls back with the thought that's maybe she pushed a little too much, too quickly. but before she has the chance to react, he is pressing back into their kiss and against her. she shudders out a gasp as his arm comes around her waist, letting him pull her close and shifting to straddle his lap. )

[Jack is still learning about himself, about what he likes and dislikes, but what he does know for sure is that he very much likes having Kara in his lap. He shifts to accommodate her, getting comfortable, and wraps his other arm around her too. It's warm in this desert city, but Jack still thinks that having Kara's warmth pressed up against him is one of the best feelings in the world.]

( kara is a little more familiar with herself and is still always pleasantly surprised by how much she likes the feel and weight of jack's arms around her. it earns him another pleasurable noise breathed out against his lips as she returns to deepen the kiss once more. )

[He likes this. He likes this a lot. Just sitting here, being with Kara, kissing Kara. He doesn't really need much more than this, he thinks. If this was all he ever had, he'd be happy.

And isn't that a remarkable thing. There's not a lot of times he can really remember being happy. Just simply happy. But right now is one of them, and he wants to make it last.

Kara is deepening the kiss, though, and while it's nice, he just... wants to make sure she knows something, so he pulls back a moment.]

I... don't really want to go any further than this. Is that okay?

[Because he knows that sometimes deeper kisses lead to more, and he's just not really wanting that right now.]

( already, kara can feel her "heart" beating so loudly in her chest that she's afraid he might be able to hear it too or feel it against his own chest. yet she blinks curiously as he pulls back, listening but ultimately giving him a smile as he finishes.

he really was amazingly cute. )

Of course it's okay. Don't ever think you can't tell me what you want.

( and gently, she leans in with flushed features to press a gentle kiss against his forehead. )

You matter to me, Jack. I would hate for you ever to be uncomfortable with me.

[Jack smiles back. He wasn't really afraid Kara would say no, but it does make him feel better to know that she won't pressure him to do anything he doesn't want to do. He leans into the forehead kiss and sighs again, happy.]

Thank you. I just... I just want to be close right now.

[He's still unpacking everything that happened in the caves, and it doesn't feel right to do more than just. Be close.]

We can stay like this for as long as you want. It's okay.

( she keeps their faces close as she talks enough that their noises touch and it let's her nuzzle closer. as much as she likes kissing him (and she really does) this is nice too. )

[Oh he definitely likes the nose nuzzling. It's... sweet, and intimate--a way to be close without kissing, but still more than just being next to each other or hugging. So he tries a little more of that, gently rubbing his nose against hers.]

Okay. Good.

I know things have been... hard, I know. After what happened but I'm here for you, okay? You're stuck with me.

( she presses in close, letting their foreheads touch and closing her eyes-- simply enjoying the feeling of being close to him. she's content, to say the least, at peace seated with him. )
